Black History Month Being Celebrated at Bemidji State University


>>>THE MONTH OF FEBRUARY, WHICH IS ALSO KNOWN AS BLACK HISTORY MONTH, IS ONE MONTH OUT OF THE YEAR FOR AFRICAN AMERICANS TO CELEBRATE THE ACHIEVEMENTS AS WELL AS RECOGNIZING AND UNDERSTANDING AFRICAN AMERICAN CULTURE. FOR THE WHOLE MONTH OF FEBRUARY, THE BLACK STUDENT UNION AT BSU HAS BEEN HOSTING EVENTS FOR EVERYONE TO ENJOY AND UNDERSTAND BLACK CULTURE AND TONIGHT THE ORGANIZATION HOSTED A PRESENTATION ON STORYTELLING AND LEADERSHIP WITHIN THE BLACK COMMUNITY.>>NO SECRET THAT BEMIDJI STATES LACKS DIVERSITY, SO I MEAN, YOU COME HERE, A LOT OF PEOPLE CAN FEEL UNCOMFORTABLE, AND I THINK JUST LIKE HAVING THAT OPEN DOOR, WHERE WE’RE LIKE HEY, YOU KNOW, IN THIS CLUB, THERE ARE PEOPLE HERE THAT LOOK LIKE YOU, YOU KNOW, COME FROM THE SAME BACKGROUND AS YOU, OR EVEN IF NOT, WELL, NOW IS YOUR OPPORTUNITY TO LEARN ABOUT SOMEONE DIFFERENT THAN YOU, AND I THINK THAT BECAUSE LIKE THIS CAMPUS LACKS DIVERSITY, LIKE, HAVING THE — LIKE PLATFORM AND DOOR FOR IT TO BE THERE IS GOING TO ATTRACT A LOT OF PEOPLE.>>THE BLACK STUDENT UNION WILL CONTINUE TO CELEBRATE BLACK HISTORY MONTH WITH AN EVENT NEXT TUESDAY THAT WILL DISCUSS RECRUITMENT AND RETENTION
