dodie “Party Tattoos” Official Lyrics & Meaning | Verified

I was staying around my friends in L.A. Her flatmate walks through the door and she’s
covered in bruises and I’m like “What on earth happened? Where were you last night? What’s going on?” She’s so American, kind of a similar husky
voice to mine right now. And she’s like, “It doesn’t matter.” “You know, they’re just party tattoos.” And I’m like, “Woah, what a cool concept.” I have a few real tattoos of my own. This is a quote from ‘La La Land,’
which is my favorite movie of all time. It says “A bit of madness is key.” And it just helps me when I’m feeling particularly,
I don’t know, spaced out or depressed to be like I need this. I use this for my art. And it really helps. This one is just lavender because it makes
me feel calm and reminds me of my mom. With the first verse I wanted to kind of create
a sense of urgency like young people going out. I wanted it to be like a night out. It’s like someone getting ready for a night
out and it’s like “Come on.” “Let’s go. Let’s go. I’m so excited.” It’s funny. I think I have terrible skin. I have acne, I have spots, it’s kind of red
in some areas. So I’m always desperately scrubbing at it,
trying to make it look smooth and perfect. But it already is smooth and young, and it’s
probably the best it will be until I’m old and then it’s all wrinkled up. So I should probably appreciate it now. When I was growing up there were a lot of
restrictions around when I could go out. I was grounded for so long because I had to
revise for, I had to study for exams. And then when I finally became a young teen,
I could just ignore all the, not all the advice but all of the restrictions that my parents
gave me. Which is okay, you’re meant to have those
but you’re also meant to break them so you can learn. Every time I got drunk when I was first starting
drinking, it kind of pushed me to feel a little bit more like “yes-y.” Wee bit problematic. So recently, within the last few years, I’ve
been learning to find that yes without alcohol and just being like “What would tipsy Dodie
do?” “What would she think right now?” That’s been really helpful. I always wanted to wear black lipstick because
I thought it looked really cool, so I’d put it on but I’d look at my gross skin and be
like “No, I don’t suit it.” But when I’m older, I wouldn’t wear it then
because my skin will be all wrinkled. But I think I mean you can wear black lipstick
whenever the heck you want. You
wanted to leave your coat behind when you went out so you could just run around in the
air, be with all your friends. You probably will get cold and your mom is
right, but you have to do that for yourself because otherwise you’ll just listen to her
and be like “No, you don’t understand.” I have so many memories of just me and my
friends, you know summer evenings when you’re borrowing someone’s cardigan or, I don’t know
sleeping on the floor at a party because there’s no beds left, and you’re freezing but people
are scattered around and then you all wake up the next morning and help clear out the
giant bin bags and then go to a Wetherspoons and all just, you’re all hungover, and all
really tired. But it’s funny and the shame is kind of shared. You know? Now my memories are more, just relaxing with
my friends, just all in this room, so comfortable with each other. No one has to say anything, and we’ll all,
I don’t know watch something for the whole afternoon and waste an entire day together. But it doesn’t matter, and it’s so comfortable.

  1. WAIT WAIT WAIT.. I JUST REALIZED. SHE'S WEARING A TAYLOR SWIFT SHIRT! I'VE SEEN THIS A BUNCH OF TIMES AND I'VE NEVER NOTICED TILL NOWA WHAT?!

  2. I feel like the artist never talk about the most important lyrics. The concept of "Party Tatoos" was never fully explained. How does one get them? Why are they called Party Tatoos?

  3. And here I was thinking it meant someone was in a abusive relationship and called them party tattoos to try and rationalize an abusive partner . And “ regret it when we’re old “ meant they would regret ever staying with them or even meeting that abusive partner . Turns out it was a innocent fun song, can’t believe I read it wrong 😅

  4. GENIUS PLS CARRY ON INTERVIEWING ACTUAL ARTISTS LIKE DODIE AND NOT PEOPLE LIKE LELE PONS AND THAT KID WHO IS LIKE “I BE FLOSSIN”
    I love dodie so much
But tbh I wouldn’t be surprised if the next video was pewdiepie explaining bitch lasagna

  5. The first of the description says "Dodie Clark (a.k.a. dodie)" Like mmhm basically just saying "My name is Rupert Price but you might know me as Rupert"

  6. Live you’re life up now the way you please when you’re young and free or you’ll regret not doing so when you’re older

  7. I want to go to the UK just to listen to people’s accents, they’re so beautiful and even how it sounds when they sing everything is just beautiful!!
