GED Graduation 2016 – Celebrate!

[music]>>I was so excited. Didn’t think I was really going to do it, but I really made it. With my GED, it will be a way better thing for me. I’m also trying to go to the National Guard, when this is all finished with.>>In Australia, you don’t need a GED or a Grade Twelve Certificate to do mechanics or other maintenance jobs, so I’d never done it. So, when I came here, my wife encouraged me to say that it’s very good to do your GED for a better job entry or to advance into college, which is what I’m doing.>>The staff have been really helpful. They got up close and personal, and I thought, “Oh, I feel comfortable here.” I asked the questions I needed to without shaking my hand. I actually held my hand up, “I have a question. Could you please answer this for me?” I felt really comfortable. The staff was really nice, and the people [in my class] were really nice, too.>>JCCC teachers have helped me with college tuition, grants and things like that. They were more excited for me to even graduate than I was, and I just love the whole program.>>As I passed it, and everybody celebrated celebrated, I thought, “Wow, this is actually a big deal.” Now [that] I’m having a graduation, I’m very excited!>>I would have graduated in 1962. But instead, I fell in love and got married. We raised a great family, and now that they are all grown and out on their own, I decided it was time for Grandma to graduate. If you see this, and you are thinking about quitting school or have already dropped out,
please go back. It will be worth it. As you can see, it’s never too late. [cheers and applause]

  1. When I earned my GED I didn't get no ceremony like that I just passed it and received my diploma in the mail within a few weeks

  2. Back in the 80’s, the test cost $10.00 and you could take the test up to three times within a certain time frame. You had to be at least 17 years old, and your diploma was mailed to you. You didn’t have to take any classes either, unless you wanted to. Seems to me, “if” you pay more for the test now and have to take classes – you better get An Adult High School Diploma opposed to a GED. I’m just saying…
