About the author

  1. I don't think there are many actresses who could pull off a moment like this and remain plausible, given the qualities of this character. Yet, Laura plays her in such a compelling way, that it comes off like a burst of honesty from a ruthless (but very intelligent) L.A lawyer, rather than just a cleverly scripted monologue.

    Superb acting.

  2. I liked this scene but I don't know if this scene specifically earns her an award. I didn't feel any compelling emotion.

  3. Yeeeaaahhh.. the oscars played jennifer Lopez in oscars nomination. I mean.i saw hustlers and even though the movie and jennifers role wasnt amazing.. neither was laura derns.. and jennifer had more lines which in turn set her up for more chances to show her skill. Both movies were a solid c+. But dam Jennifer shoulda been up there

  4. To those playing the custody battle card: The sexism Nora describes is exactly why the fathers are often screwed in custody battles! Because this kind of mentality and double standard automatically assumes men to be of lower ability when it comes to parenthood, even if this isn't the case. When it is always assumed (by religion and society) that women are created and expected to be child takers they are constantly judged and held into a different higher standard whereas men are often excluded not only from the expectation to properly care for their own children but, at times, they are excluded even from their right to do so. Sexism and prejudice hurt both sides and have implications for everyone involved.

  5. "The idea of a good father was only invented like 30 years ago. Before that, fathers were expected to be silent, and absent, and unreliable, and selfish. We can all say we want them to be different. But on some basic level, we accept them. We love them for their fallibilities. But people, absolutely don't accept those same feelings in mothers. We don't accept it structurally and we don't accept it spiritually. Because the basis of our Judaeo-Christian whatever, is Mary! Mother of Jesus! And she's perfect! She's a virgin, who gives birth! Unwaveringly supports her child and holds his dead body when he's gone. And the dad isn't there. He didn't even do the fucking! God is in Heaven! God is the father and God didn't show up! So, you have to be perfect, and Charlie can be a fuck-up and it doesn't matter. You will always be held to a different, higher standard."

  6. So she is an athiest that clearly hasn't read the Bible and hates men. Or the director is speaking his thoughts through the character. Either way the movie is great but this scene throws me out of it.

  7. So, according to the character, the fact that she realistically began as a one-in-a-million sperm wiggling in her daddy's scrotum counts for Jack shit!!!🇵🇷🇺🇸🤣
